About Me

I studied Expressive Arts at college and combined music, improvisation and art in one BA hons degree. I learnt classical guitar from 14 and studied it through my college years as part of my degree Instrumental Teaching. I have also completed Safeguarding in Music Education.

I teach private lessons from my home studio in Shefford where I live with my wife, 2 sons and a dog. I have recently built a studio specially for music and aim to make the experience of learning as enjoyable as possible. To play any instrument satisfactorily you must practice regularly and really enjoy it and for that reason I teach in an informal style and I am keen to get you motivated with music that inspires you working at a pace that you feel comfortable with.

I teach a broad range of guitar styles which may cover Rhythm and Blues, Folk and Rock and sometimes more Jazzy styles and of course with each type of music comes an insight into how different sounds can be made on the guitar through technique or amplification. I also teach Ukelele where the focus is to get you started with basic chords and importantly give some good insights into how to play different rhythm styles and improve your overall musicality.

My lessons are designed to get you playing and enjoying the instrument from the first day. There will be some basics to master at first but you will quickly learn by playing real songs, riffs and phrases that inspire and motivate you. I am very flexible so you can learn for fun or, if you prefer, you can work towards achieving grades in electric or acoustic guitar. All my students taking exams have passed and the majority achieving merit or distinction. Either way the important thing is to enjoy playing and practice often.
